Luz L.
Luz Limon is married and has 2 daughters, ages 16 and 21. Luz was thrilled, and surprised, to be accepted in DGL’s first pilot cohort. Luz’s husband works two jobs – a car wash and janitor at a gym. Luz works part-time, as a server and house cleaner. The Limon family does not receive any public assistance, they are the “working poor,” earning too much to receive assistance but not enough to meet basic needs month over month.
Luz manages the spending for her family, and while she doesn’t have a documented monthly budget she knows exactly how much she needs to cover her monthly living expenses: rent, food, electricity, and her husband’s transportation for work. We asked Luz if she used the monthly cash for a specific expense:
“I have a difficult time answering the question on what exactly I used the money for because I gather all my money at the beginning of the month and use it throughout the month. The extra cash was a great help because I could use it for any of my bills, you didn’t tell me how I had to use it.”
Luz commented that the extra cash also helped her with an unplanned medical bill.
Luz asked us to share her gratitude with the donors who created this opportunity:
“I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart and for those that made this project happen”
